The Man Trip to Milwaukee
The Man Trip to Milwaukee

Having been to the 100th Anniversary celebration, I wasn’t expecting to be impressed by the 105th, but there were some new things to see and do this time in Milwaukee. The new H-D museum downtown on the waterfront was worth the time and money. In addition to all the bikes on display, they had some of the last remaining footage of board racing at one of the displays, and a lot of history about H-D’s marketing strategy as well as some cool things like the engine room, where you could listen to the sounds of all the different motors (the shovelhead sounded the best).

ROT Biker Rally 2008

Bikers and motorcycle fanatics from across the world came along for a wild and exhilarating ride as the 14th Annual Republic of Texas (ROT) Biker Rally rumbled into town June 12-15, 2008. Headquartered at the 350 acre Travis County Expo Center, ROT Rally 2008 was an unparalleled success, attracting more than 40,000 attendees – a new record for the fifth-largest motorcycle event in the U.S. This non-stop biker party also gave Austin’s economy a healthy boost, providing an estimated $35 million economic impact during the four-day extravaganza of live music, entertainment, attractions, vendors, motorcycle parades, fireworks displays, giveaways and, of course, the people watching!

Old Shawneetown’s Street Rally
Old Shawneetown's Street Rally

Well, I rode up to the Little Sturgis, Kentucky Bike Rally. I did pretty much as I did last month when I went to Hog Rock River Rally. I took a bunch of back roads from Georgia through Alabama into Tennessee and spent the night in Clarksville, Tennessee (The Gateway to the South). I had some fun with some people in Illinois and told them that we southerners support a fence along the US and Mexican border but we also wanted one along the Mason Dixon line to keep the Yankees out. Now, I’m just having fun. Like I said last month, for a bunch of Yankees, those are some fine folks up in that part of Illinois and Kentucky.

Things You Gotta See at Sturgis

If you’re attending the Sturgis Rally for the first time, I suggest you do a little planning and decide what you want to see, unless you plan to spend more than a week there. This is one of the most popular (and in my opinion the best) rally in the USA because there is so much good riding and so many attractions. Here is a list of some things worth working into your plans.
1. Spearfish Canyon – if you like lots of curves and great scenery you’re going to love the ride through the canyon. Beautiful trees and abundant wildlife make for a breathtaking view and one of the best rides anywhere in the world.
